AbujaCraft Competition
The Abuja Teens’ Craft Competition is a project of SKILLUP NAIJA, set up to encourage and support Abuja’s Teens who are passionate about creativity, invention, and innovation. It is a search for ABUJA’S NO. 1 INVENTOR AND CREATIVE TEENAGER
How It Works
The competition is basically carried out online. Contestants will be made to compete for the ultimate prize by showcasing their invention/innovation in the form of products like Generators, drones, robots, cars, diverse fashion designs, woodwork, machines, Ankara craft works, or other vocational, technical, and engineering craft works.
Entry into this competition is free (you can register here). No purchase or payment is made. However, participants must;
- Be an inventor or aspire to be one.
- Have creative and innovative skills with a novel product to show.
- Have a picture showing his/her self together with invention/creation
Voting Process & Stages
After Auditions, qualified candidates will be shortlisted for immediate display and showcase of projects or products. They will be packaged for the proper contest, where the public will be called upon to pick the best through votes. The top 50 qualified participants with the highest number of votes (minimum of 300 votes) will qualify for Stage Two.
All those who couldn’t cross the decisive vote threshold of 300 votes will be eliminated, leaving only the Top 50 contestants on the leaderboard. At this stage, winners will be determined by the number of public votes and the level of online presence (i.e., Project/Product views, likes, and comments on our social media pages). The Top 20 contestants with the highest number of votes (minimum of 2500 votes) will be selected for the final showdown.
Everyone that makes it to this stage is automatically a WINNER and will be enlisted into the SKILLUP NAIJA’S GOLD WINNERS HALL OF FAME 2023. The overall winner and FCT Abuja’s No.1 Creative Teenager, together with the first and second runner-ups (2nd and 3rd position) will be determined by 3 criteria;
- Contestant number of public Votes (a minimum of 4500).
- Votes secured by contestants from online presence (views, likes, and comments on our social media pages).
- Votes secured from neutral Judges (based on the contestant’s excellence in product/project designs, originality, usability, and solving societal problems/needs) using the contestant’s presentation & task.
PRIZES TO BE WON
The first prize winner will be crowned as FCT Abuja’s No. 1 creative Teenager of the year 2023 with a cash prize of One Million Naira (N1,000,000).
The First and second runner-ups will receive a cash prize of Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300,000) and Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000) respectively. All 3 top finalists will receive mentorship deals that will help convert their projects into commercial products.
Other top 17 contestants that do not fall in the 3 categories above will receive the Skillup Naija Gold winners Hall of Fame medal and honour, access to online training/coaching on how to convert their projects into commercial products and attract investors, and other consolations prizes.
Billboard display of Top Winners’ pictures and School names in strategic places around Abuja.
Formal recognition/cash prize for teachers or mentees of Top Winners.
